It’s official – 15 June was the big day when we officially launched Shicol, the new Think-Do-Learn Tank! The speakers represented the range of issues that Shicol will work on. Prof. R.R. Singh from Lucknow and Prof. Lynn Froggett from the UK talked about “Alternatives in education” and “The arts and community engagement”. They, as well as Capt. Afzal Amdani from Mumbai, are members of the Shicol board.
Niket Sagar, a Bill Clinton Fellow who has been working in a tribal area in Nuapada, Odisha, shared his experiences from the field. Presenters from Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh talked about environmental issues, and Nirav Pal represented the Happy Hands School for the Deaf along with a class of deaf children. At the end of the function, Ramji Panda, Trustee of the Rural Lifeline Trust, thanked everyone for their support, and the chief guests ceremoniously opened envelopes to bring Shicol to life.
