Serious Games

Serious Games

When games are used not for entertainment, but for other purposes, they are called “Serious Games”. These are used in meetings, workshops, in the classroom, for informal education, or in co-creative events. For our work, we are particularly interested in Serious Games in face-to-face contexts without high-speed internet access, smart phones, ICT-confident people, etc. That is, these games can be played with just pen, paper, and materials easily found in any environment. We also focus on the benefit of using Serious Games with groups of people who are very diverse – people speaking different languages, and belonging to different age, cultural, and social groups. We invent, test, and improve our own Serious Games, and we use them in many of our own events at Shicol.
