Deaf Multi-literacies
Our work on “Peer to Peer Deaf Multi-literacies” (P2PDM) is based on the idea that deaf sign language users can learn language, literacy and allied skills by working with deaf tutors in real-life relevant and self-generated ways. Together with partners in the UK, Ghana, Uganda, and India, we have been building new ecosystems of learning with deaf children and deaf youth We also work to create learning materials, and to lobby for sign languages and deaf professionals to be properly recognised. We have hosted an international capacity building programme with young deaf professionals from India, Uganda, and Nepal. Our aim is for deaf communities to take on recognised and validated roles in deaf education, and we are also interested in sharing our experiences with people from spoken language minorities.
